Wood Award 2015 to Puukuokka – constructed with Stora Enso CLT 26 November 2015 Press Release Puuinfo Oy has awarded Puupalkinto 2015 (Wood Award) to Puukuokka, located in Jyväskylä Finland. This eight-storey building has been jointly realised by Stora Enso and Lakea. The architectural design is made by OOPEAA Architects. The winner was announced in connection with Puupäivä (Wood day) held in Helsinki today. According to the jury ”Puukuokka is an interesting building in terms of its architecture as well as colouring. It opens up in versatile and interesting ways when viewed from various angles. The usage of wood in this building is clear and naturally strong. The two-colour façade creates an experience in the location.” ”We are proud to participate in the realisation of Puukuokka. Wooden construction needs forerunners and successful architecture. In addition to developing solutions, increasing awareness is an important part in lifting the status of wooden construction,” Jari Suominen, Head of Stora Enso Wood Products says. The eight-storey Puukuokka is constructed with modular CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) elements produced by Stora Enso’s Wood Products Hartola unit. The building includes 58 apartments that provide a pleasant living environment utilising renewable building materials. The jury praises Puukuokka from ”the successful usage of wood as a visual element in interiors and balconies despite the strict Finnish fire regulations.” Puupalkinto (Wood Award) is been granted by Puuinfo on a yearly basis since 1994 for a building, interior or a structure that represents high-quality Finnish wood architecture or for a structure that promotes construction technique development.
