Committed to forest certification
Wood is Stora Enso’s most important raw material. It is in our interest both as a forest industry company and as responsible citizens to keep forests healthy and productive through sustainable forest management. In addition to the international and national laws, the voluntary forest certification systems help implement, verify and communicate sustainable forest management.
Today some 80% of all wood used by Stora Enso comes from certified forests, and this figure is increasing. There are two major forest certification schemes, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). Stora Enso is committed to both systems and helps increase forest certification by working with both certification systems and stakeholders.
Stora Enso uses also the FSC and/or PEFC based Chain of Custody systems to implement and verify the traceability of wood. All Stora Enso’s wood sourcing is covered by third party verified traceability systems, which helps us to check that wood comes from responsible sources.
